From burning to earning

Three good reasons to have your complex residual flows analyzed

Three good reasons to put complex residual flows with cellulose component under a magnifying glass

As a company you produce waste, that is currently inevitable. For some companies, the amount of waste isn’t that much. However, other companies are left with so much waste – at European level we are talking about hundreds of thousands of tons – that it is very worthwhile putting those residual flows under a magnifying glass. Especially if you know (or think) that there is a component of cellulose in your waste. We give you three good reasons to have your cellulosic residual flows analyzed. Because without being aware of it, a lot of value might be going into thin air…

Reason 1 – Don’t sell yourself short

We are burning tons and tons of waste, often without much thought. Although we can already separate a lot of waste, with some residual flows it isn’t that easy. Nevertheless, there can still be considerable value in these complex residual flows. If you have residual flows that contain a cellulose component – such as packaging labels, plasterboard, contaminated fast food packaging, diapers and other hygienic products, but also sewage sludge – have these analyzed by Recell. With our specialized tests we can find out for you whether there is value in your waste. And whether it is worth recovering the cellulose. This recovered cellulose can also form the basis for a range of new products in different markets. As a whole, it can be the basis for an interesting business case.

Reason 2 – Reduce your CO2 footprint

The clock keeps ticking, the deadline for a circular economy is getting closer and closer. We can only achieve this if we all put our shoulders to the wheel. If your company takes the step to make its residual flows cleaner, that is also a step to significantly reduce your company’s CO2 footprint. And doing so, you also get a bit closer to that circular economy. For removing the cellulose from complex residual flows means that the remaining waste immediately gets cleaner. In turn, this means that these residual flows are also more suitable for re-use. In this way we are greening entire business chains. The rule of thumb at Recell is: applying 1 tonne of Recell® cellulose saves 2 tonnes of CO2. So it is really worth the effort. Advantage in your wallet therefore also means contributing to the circular economy. And that’s a win for everyone!

Reason 3 – Because Recell has the technology and expertise

Until a few years ago, it was not possible to recover cellulose from residual flows on a larger scale. At Recell, we have developed our techniques to such an extent that this is possible and can be profitable. We did so in collaboration with Cellvation and various knowledge institutes. We ‘serve’ the entire chain. We extract cellulose from residual flows and, where necessary, upgrade it to Recell® quality (tertiary cellulose). In addition, we have guaranteed markets for this tertiary cellulose. For instance in the infrastructure or basic chemistry sectors. But Recell® can also serve as an ingredient for biocomposites. Or, for example, in paste for 3D printers and in building materials. We can unburden you from A to Z. So stop burning, start gaining. In other words: ‘From burning to earning’!

How to unlock a residual flow with a cellulose component?

Does your complex residual flow contain cellulose? Or do you think that there is a cellulose component in it? Then contact us. With our experience, often a first conversation is enough to indicate whether an analysis of your residual flows makes sense. You might also read our previous blog. In this article we have given a calculation example with an indication of prices and revenues.

Tailor-made analyzes of cellulosic residual flows

We analyze complex residual flows. In doing so, we look at the proportion of cellulose that can be recovered. But also to the quality and properties of that cellulose. We can ‘look deeply into the fibers’ to see what is needed to upgrade the cellulose to Recell® quality. Residual flows vary per sector and also within branches. That is why at Recell Services we provide tailor-made analyses. And we try to match our customer’s wishes. Depending on those wishes, the lead time of a Recell Service process is 1.5 weeks to several months. Do you opt for a basic analysis, or for a ‘full package’ including upgrading to Recell® quality and a detailed business case? With internationally recognized LCA software, we can also calculate how much cleaning your residual flows contributes to reducing your company’s CO2 footprint.

Limited analysis or extensive Recell service?

Recell Services has a number of options for analyses. From a limited standard analysis to a very extensive package with the following components:

  • analysis of the proportion of cellulose and secondary raw materials;
  • analysis of the quality and properties of the cellulose component;
  • determining options for upgrading the recovered cellulose to Recell® quality;
  • analysis of the contaminating components and optimal separation and processing options;
  • a proposal for the (guaranteed) sales markets;
  • the detailed business case;
  • calculation of the new carbon footprint with internationally recognized LCA software.

Harness your opportunities, extract value from your residual flow

Does your company have a complex residual flow with a cellulose component that now costs you money? Thanks to the new technology of the Recell Group, this is no longer necessary. Save on waste processing and waste tax and discover a solid business case! Prevent ‘unsustainable’ waste and harness the advantage of selling recovered raw materials and/or CO2 certificates. In short: Recover the value out of your residual flow!
